How the pregnancy due date calculator works
Your estimated due date (EDD) is the date you are likely to give birth — around 40 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). This calculator uses Naegele's rule, the same method used in antenatal clinics: it counts 280 days forward from your LMP and fine-tunes the result for your own cycle length. Prefer to count from conception? Switch the calculator and it counts 266 days instead.
How many weeks pregnant am I?
Pregnancy is measured in weeks of gestation, starting from your last period — not from conception. That is why you are considered "2 weeks pregnant" at the moment of conception. The calculator shows your current week and day, your trimester and how far along you are, so you always know what stage you have reached.
The three trimesters
- First trimester (weeks 1–13): organs form, early scans and folic acid matter most.
- Second trimester (weeks 14–27): the anatomy scan (around week 20) and steady growth.
- Third trimester (weeks 28–40): rapid growth and preparation for delivery.
Remember, a due date is an estimate — a healthy baby can arrive any time between 37 and 42 weeks. For an accurate, scan-confirmed due date and complete antenatal care, book an appointment with Dr. Abeera Ali, or read more about pregnancy & antenatal care.
